About the artist:
Born in Toulon in 1930, Gilbert Baglione studied firstly at the École des Beaux Arts in Toulon, and then continued his studies at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris.
Gilbert Baglione worked and had his studio in the heart of Provence near Mont Ventoux. His paintings reflect images of Provence – olive trees, sunflowers, orchards and the sky illuminated by the moon, the sun, or stars. He tried to convey the pleasure and enjoyment such spectacles of nature can impart to the viewer with a dream-like quality to his compositions, and bold use of colour.
Gilbert Baglione exhibited widely throughout his long career in Paris, Japan, USA, and London. He was the Honorary Vice President of the Société des Artistes Independants and also won many prizes for his paintings. His work was purchased by the French State, the City of Paris, and the Museum of the City of Tokyo, and can be found in private collections in the USA, Italy, Netherlands, Japan, Canada, Australia and France.
